XtraordinarY - XUR® takes pictures in KitKat

I got the idea for the KitKat photo-project in early April, 2005. To me, the guests are absolutely unique and I think the least pictures I know can do their characters justice. You know the typical party pictures: Put the flash in somebody's greasy face and maybe use some after-effects for the atmosphere – a little blurry, but colourful.
At best, you can get a good image for an article out of this – but I have a different approach: I am a fashion designer – I got my degree at the University of Arts (UDK) in 1991, worked for a couple of years, eventually packed in this job and for almost 10 years now I am producing clothes made of liquid latex.
I have been fascinated with fashion photography ever since I studied at the UDK. Three years ago I started taking pictures of the clothes that I produce. Just like in fashion photography, I try to make the people in the KitKat look good – I use the same perspective, lenses and light. At the same time, it is very important to me to do justice to the people's character – to capture them in extraordinary, real moments. I don't want to produce stereotype fashion dolls – I've been fed up with this for a long time.
No – the fantastic variety and characteristics of each and every guest are worth showing from their best side. 99% of all the people I took pictures of, are nice people and I feel obligated to make them look good. Sometimes this is easy and sometimes it is a little bit harder, but it's always a challenge. And not only they should look good, they should remain themselves: exactly as they are in the KitKat: cheerful, bold, bashful, profound, sexy, perverted, lustful, brute, aloof,

twisted, naïve, innocent, guilty, dynamic, static, apathetic, whatever…
That is the beautiful thing about this place: Everyone is free to be themselves. This is what makes the club so different from every other location. Here the reality is authentic.
To me, regular clubs are purely superficial. In other clubs, people are over-dressed and under-stated, inside and outside, physically and metaphorically)
I am planning an exposition at Hamburg 's famous Reeperbahn, as well as a Photo-book. For both of these projects, I need a lot of releases, because I don't want to get myself or anyone else, in trouble. Until then, I'll take pictures of everybody who wants their picture taken and then send you the pictures (downsized via e-mail – Or, I can also do cheap prints for you) as a promotion, but also… because I enjoy it!
